Listing Policy

How parts are sourced, condition definitions, and what to expect when purchasing on ShopEarl.

All parts on ShopEarl come from our network of sellers, including certified auto recyclers and dismantlers, aftermarket manufacturers, and rebuilders/remanufacturers. Auto recyclers specialize in carefully removing parts from end-of-life vehicles.

We maintain detailed records of each part's origin, including the vehicle it came from, its mileage, and condition, ensuring you have complete transparency about what you are purchasing.

Part condition definitions:

  • Used OEM: Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) components removed from vehicles that are no longer on the road, commonly referred to as "Recycled Original Equipment" (ROE). They have been inspected and tested to ensure they are in good working condition, but they will show signs of use and may have cosmetic damage that will be noted in the listing or images. Used parts are often the most economical option and are environmentally friendly, as they give existing parts a second life.
  • Remanufactured: Used parts that have been completely disassembled, cleaned, and rebuilt with new components where necessary. They are tested to meet or exceed original equipment specifications and often come with warranties similar to new parts.
  • New Aftermarket: Brand-new parts made by companies other than the original vehicle manufacturer. They have never been installed on a vehicle and are produced to be exact replicas of the original equipment (OE) part they replace.
  • New Surplus: Unused parts typically procured from sources other than the OEM's main dealership or authorized distribution channels. They are often excess inventory from a manufacturer, an OEM supplier, or parts remaining after a vehicle model's production run ends. They are generally priced lower than new parts bought directly from a dealership and offer OEM quality at a more affordable cost, though they may not always come in original retail packaging or with the same warranty.
  • CAPA Certified: Parts certified by the Certified Automotive Parts Association (CAPA), a non-profit organization that sets standards and specifications for replacement auto parts. The certification ensures that parts meet or exceed established standards for quality, fit, finish, and material composition, making them comparable to OEM parts in form, fit, and function. CAPA-certified parts are typically identifiable by a distinctive yellow CAPA quality seal.

What to expect with used inventory:

Our sellers make a best effort to accurately represent their inventory through descriptions and images. However, all used inventory should be expected to show signs of use. Used parts will naturally exhibit signs of prior wear and age.

To ensure a part meets your specific needs, review all product specifications, detailed descriptions, and images provided by the seller before making a purchase. If you are ever unsure about the condition or fitment of a part, our parts experts are available to help verify condition and compatibility before you buy.
