How to Return Your Core

Step-by-step process for returning your old core and getting your core deposit refund.

After you receive your remanufactured engine or transmission from ShopEarl, you can return your old engine or transmission (aka core) to get your core deposit refund. The process is the same whether it is an engine or a transmission.

How to start your core return:

  1. Go to your Orders page on ShopEarl
  2. Find the order and select the option to return your core
  3. The seller will provide a Bill of Lading (BOL) with freight pickup details
  4. Prepare your core for pickup (see Preparing Your Core for Pickup for condition requirements)
  5. The freight company will pick up the core at the address listed on the BOL

What is a BOL?

A BOL (Bill of Lading) is a shipping document issued by the seller. Think of this as a return label for a freight item — it includes your pickup address, the freight company's information, and the details of what is being shipped. You will need this document when the freight company arrives to pick up your core.

What to expect after you start the return:

  • The seller arranges the freight pickup — you do not need to ship the core yourself
  • The BOL spells out all pickup details, including the date and freight company
  • Once the freight company picks up the core and delivers it to the seller, the seller will inspect it
  • After inspection, your core deposit refund is processed. It can take up to 10 business days from the time the core is received by the seller for the refund to be issued. After the refund is issued, it may take up to 10 days for it to appear on your bank or credit card statement.

Core return window:

Cores should be returned within 30 days of your new part being installed. However, most sellers will accept core returns for up to 1 year after your order.

If you miss your freight pickup:

If you miss your scheduled pickup, it is your responsibility to reschedule directly with the freight company. The freight company's contact information is on your BOL. The seller does not reschedule missed pickups.
