Understanding Warranty Coverage on ShopEarl
What your warranty covers, how long it lasts, and what can void it.
Most parts on ShopEarl include a warranty from the date of delivery. Your warranty coverage depends on the seller, the part condition (used, aftermarket, or remanufactured), and whether a premium warranty was purchased.
Warranty coverage by part condition:
- Used parts: Most used parts include a 30-day warranty ("Basic"). Some sellers offer longer default coverage — for example, a 6-month powertrain warranty or a 90-day standard warranty — at no extra cost. Check your order details on ShopEarl for the warranty that applies to your purchase.
- Aftermarket (new) parts: Warranty terms vary by seller and are listed on the product listing. Coverage can range from 30 days to 1 year or more depending on the seller.
- Remanufactured parts: Remanufactured engines and transmissions typically include a 3-year standard warranty.
- Premium warranties: Some sellers offer paid premium warranty packages, especially for powertrain and drivetrain parts. These provide longer coverage and may include labor reimbursement depending on the package terms.
If your listing does not mention a specific warranty, the standard 30-day default applies.
What's covered:
Warranties cover defective parts, parts that fail under normal use, and parts that arrived damaged. The seller reviews each claim and makes the determination based on the evidence provided.
What can void your warranty:
To keep your warranty valid, follow these guidelines when you receive and install your part:
- Inspect parts on delivery. Check the part when it arrives and compare it to the listing photos and description. Take photos before installing.
- Verify fitment before installation. Make sure the part matches your vehicle before installing it. Check the part number, specifications, and compatibility.
- Follow manufacturer-recommended service procedures. Install the part according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Perform required programming and calibration. Transmissions, electronic modules, ADAS components, and other electronics often require programming or calibration after installation. Skipping this step can void your warranty.
- Replace maintenance items during installation. When installing a major component, replace related maintenance items like fluids, filters, seals, and gaskets as recommended by the manufacturer.
- Report freight damage within 24 hours. If your part arrives with visible shipping damage, report it within 24 hours and keep all packaging materials.
- Retain packaging materials. Do not discard packaging until you have inspected the part and confirmed it is correct and undamaged.
Important — returns vs. warranties:
If your issue is within 30 days of delivery, you are eligible for a return instead of a warranty claim. Returns are generally faster to resolve. See How to Start a Return for details.
If your issue is after 30 days from delivery and still within your warranty window, you will need to file a warranty claim. See How to File a Warranty Claim for the steps.
